Because you can't judge a book by its cover

Book Club

Those of you who have followed me for sometime are aware that I have occasionally been a panelist on the Pajama Chat Readers Online Book Club. Recently, I was approached by Terry Kate of Romance in the Backseat to become one of the regular panelists, of course I jumped at the chance to discuss my favorite books in person and online.

For those of you unfamiliar with Pajama Chat Readers, once a week at a set time the panelists call in to talk about the chosen book, while we are on the phone all of you can listen in and discuss the book with us in the online chat room or (and we really like it when this happens) you can call into the number listed and talk with us about the books. If you can’t make it to live chat have no fear, we post the link so you can listen in whenever it is convenient for you. :)

I am going to be handling one week a month and we will be discussing contemporary romance novels. If you are not interested in the contemporary novel chosen, don’t worry, each week a different genre will be covered by a different set of panelists.

Terry from Romance in the Backseat will be discussing all things Young Adult.

Lexie from Poisoned Rationality will be discussing historical romance novels.

Jackie from Literary Escapism and Natasha from Wicked Little Pixie will be discussing all things Paranormal/Urban Fantasy.

The Club will be officially starting in January and the novels being discussed will be:

Pale Demon by Kim Harrison

Out for Blood by Alyxandra Harvey

Jane by April Lindner

Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah MacLean

You can read excerpts and reviews of the novel before the club at Pajama Chat Readers Online Book Club. If you are a blogger and are interested in being a panelist, shoot me an email. I hope to see all of you at our book club!

Pajama Chat Readers Online Book Club Choice for this week is Kiss Me If You Can by Carly Phillips. The book is a great contemporary read and is available to be purchased in ebook, paperback, or audio. So get reading and I will see you at the book club Saturday, August 28th at 1pm EST.

From the Harlequin Publishing:

Sam Cooper (“Coop”) has just become the most eligible bachelor in New York City. Now that he has foiled a jewelry-store robbery and has been rewarded with the ring of his choice, single women all over the city are fawning over the crime reporter. But Coop isn’t interested in the admirers sending racy underwear his way. His attention is centered solely on Lexie Davis, the only woman in the city who claims not to be interested in his bachelor status.

Instead, free-spirited Lexie is interested in Coop’s antique ring, and its—potentially scandalous—history in her family. But Coop is quickly becoming more than just her route to the ring. When his investigation starts to uncover the truth, will she trust her heart—and her family secrets—to this most eligible bachelor?

On August 14th at 1:00 EST Pajama Chat Readers will be discussing two great YA novels, Blood Feud by Alyxandra Harvey and Demon Princess: Reign Check by Michelle Rowen. Both books are the second in their series so grab both and get caught up.

The action and romance continue as the Drakes face a new vampire with a 200-year-old grudge.

It’s been centuries since Isabeau St. Croix barely survived the French Revolution. Now she’s made her way back to the living and she must face the ultimate test by confronting the evil British lord who left her for dead the day she turned into a vampire. That’s if she can control her affection for Logan Drake, a vampire whose bite is as sweet as the revenge she seeks.
The clans are gathering for Helena’s royal coronation as the next vampire queen, and new alliances are beginning to form now that the old rifts of Lady Natasha’s reign have started to heal. But with a new common enemy, Leander Montmarte—a vicious leader who hopes to force Solange to marry him and usurp the power of the throne for himself—the clans must stand together to preserve the peace he threatens to destroy.

This second adventure in the Drake Chronicles—told from both Logan’s and Isabeau’s perspectives—has all the same butt-kicking action, heart-pounding romances and snarky humor that readers loved in Hearts at Stake, as well as exciting new revelations about the vampire dynasties to keep readers coming back for more.–Bloomsbury Publishing

You can read an excerpt of the book here.

Enter the world of Nikki Donovan, a demon princess hell-bent on living a normal teenage life.

Nikki Donovan has had a lot to deal with since learning she was half human, half demon. But things take a darker turn when Rhys, a gorgeous — but potentially dangerous — faery king enrolls at her high school to investigate Nikki’s potential for fulfilling an apocalyptic prophesy. Nikki knows she’d never turn violent, and she certainly couldn’t destroy the world…could she?

Of course, all Nikki really wants is to be reunited with Michael, a Shadow creature whose status as her personal servant is further complicated by their undeniable attraction to each other. Even though the rules of the Shadowlands strictly forbid their romance, Nikki is determined not to let Michael go. But when she is summoned to the Underworld to appear before a demon council, it will take all her courage — and perhaps a bit of demon-level strength — to get herself out again.–Bloomsbury Publishing

You can read the first two chapters here.

The novels are available in paperback, hardcover and Kindle versions. So get reading and get ready to chat. :)

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
Graphic Ratings*

1 = kissing
2 = kissing, some fondling
3 = descriptive stripping but no sex
4 = sex scene but not descriptive in details
5 = full descriptive sex scene

*I am rating a specific book by an author, not the author's style. If I am aware an author writes a specific way, I will let you know.
