Anthology

christmas-tree1

There is something about the holidays that always makes me eagerly read Christmas anthologies (I think it has something to do with all the Zebra Regency Christmas Kittens anthologies I devoured as a teenager). Not only are they fun quick reads, they are a great way to find new authors without feeling like you are wasting too much time on a novel you may not like. I looked forward to A Christmas to Remember because it contained A Lucky Harbor story by Jill Shalvis and a Last Chance story by Hope Ramsay, both authors I have reviewed and enjoyed in the past.

Dream a Little Dream by Jill Shalvis, Melissa has always kept everyone at a distance excerpt her friend with benefits Ian. Ian has decided he wants something more, and it is the season of miracles…

Every Year by Kristen Ashley, the Cage brothers have never really celebrated Christmas, but this year they are about to get to experience a true Christmas celebration with Tabby and her family.

Silent Night by Hope Ramsay, single mother Maryanne hopes to start over in a town called Last Chance. But nothing goes as planned, can Maryanne find the Christmas miracle she is searching for?

Have Yourself A Messy Little Christmas by Molly Cannon, Lincoln is a messy confirmed bachelor whose mother hires him a professional organizer who shows up dressed as Mrs. Clause, changing his life forever.

A Family for Christmas by Marilyn Pappano, War widow and single mother doesn’t mind spending Christmas alone but when a new doctor shows up in town, will she need to rethink her plans, for the better?!

A contemporary anthology, A Christmas to Remember is a fun quick read that is perfect to get anyone in the mood for Christmas. I particularly liked Silent Night by Hope Ramsay. Maryanne has only one good memory and it is of a Christmas spent when she was six at her grandfather’s farm. Maryanne hopes that she can bring that same joy into the life of her son by starting over in Last Chance but things don’t go as planned when her car breaks down several miles outside of Last Chance. Hope Ramsay’s characters are always charmingly flawed and her writing has a warmth that is a perfect fit for a Christmas story.

Be aware that there is some use of the “F” word in one of the stories.

Royal Bridesmaids is an anthology collection including A Return Engagement by Stephanie Laurens, The Impostor Bride by Gaelen Foley, Lord Lovedon’s Duel by Loretta Chase.

A Return Engagement has Lady Nell Daughtery escorting her sister to marry the Prince of Lautenberg, little does Nell know that not only will she have to assist her sister to the alter, she will have to deal with the one man who got away. The Imposter Bride Lady Minerva has escorted the spoiled Princess to marry Prince Tor in an attempt to end a decades long war but when the bride disappears Lady Minerva is left to save both countries from erupting into war again. Lord Lovedon’s Duel  Chloe and her sister, the bride, overhear the Earl of Lovedon stating that the marriage is a match made in money, Chloe does what any family member would do and challenges the Earl to a duel.

Royal Bridesmaids is a cute collection of short stories revolving around the bridesmaids to the royal brides. The collection is a quick read (I finished it in one afternoon).  The Imposter Bride was an unexpected historical novel (not your traditional English story) and Lord Lovedon’s Duel  was entertainingly humorous, I enjoyed all three stories. The novel is worth a read so I gave it 3 stars but not something you should drop everything to run out and purchase. The page length listed is misleading, the collection has a sneak peak of all three authors next releases so the stories themselves take up much less than the stated page length. Right now the listed price for the ebook is $1.99 and I feel like the anthology is worth the price but I probably wouldn’t pay a whole lot more than that, given the length of the actual stories. Like I said, worth a read for the cute stories.

In Monsters Don’t Do Christmas by Michele Hauf, Daniel was a hotshot on Wall Street until he is attacked and turned into a vampire. Left to his own devices, Daniel is trying to find meaning for his existence and to counter the monster he has become. Olivia treasures her time by herself but when she saves what she thinks is a man from being beat up, her alone time is interrupted but she finds herself drawn to this stranger. When reality intrudes upon them, both must come to terms with their perceived inner monsters if they want to find a way to be together.

Damien has one last chance to win his soul mate Angelina, in previous times he was given the opportunity to win Angelina but he failed to see her worth. losing her in the process. When Herald Angels Sing by Caridad Pineiro, Damien remembers the past experiences of the two of them but Angelina does not and Damien must convince her that they are in love or risk losing her forever.

All I Want For Christmas by Alexis Morgan, Egan is an undercover cop and vampire searching for vampires who have attacked and killed teenagers. As he is working, Egan meets Della, a diner owner who is drawn to the loneliness in the mysterious Egan.

The thing I love about anthologies is they give you a taste of new authors that you may not have read otherwise, the thing I hate about anthologies is you never know what you are going to get. Technically, I would rate A Vampire for Christmas as a 3.5 stars, I really enjoyed the first story, the second story was okay, I didn’t really care for the third story and I liked the fourth story. That being said,  A Vampire for Christmas was a quick paranormal Christmassy read, which you don’t find a ton of. Like I said, the stories were a mix of liking and not really caring for them but I am interested in reading the first book in the Sweetblood series by Laurie London because of the sampling of the series I read in this anthology.

There is nothing sexier and lovable than a man who protects his country but those in the elite services have a special place in our hearts. SEAL of My Dreams is a collection of 18 short-stories about the elite of the elite, Navy SEALs. SEAL of My Dreams is a heartwarming collection that showcases the love, devotion and sacrifices made by these brave soldiers and their families. From soldiers returning home after spending years putting their personal lives on hold and missing out on key family events while they protect their country to running special ops to save the ones they love, this anthology has it all.

A couple of the stories had me tearing up, especially Dog Heart by Barbara Samuel. Marcus Stone finds himself returning to the woman who broke his heart after he is injured while on a mission. Marcus had sworn never to return but when his team’s combat dog shows signs of PTSD after a blast kills three team members and injuries five others, he realizes that Jessie is the only one who can help Sgt. Thor. The scars, both physical and emotional, that Marcus and Thor suffer just touched my heart, causing me to tear up several times when I stopped to think about the real men, women and animals who put themselves on the front line all the time and end up living with the scars of their sacrifice for the rest of their life.

I highly recommend SEAL of My Dreams because besides being a great fundraiser, the authors do a fabulous job of showing the heart, devotion and sacrifice of these elite soldiers. Be aware that there is some use of the f* word in several of the stories and it definitely rates as a five flaming hearts on the sex content scale but it is a great collection of authors.

All proceeds from sales of SEAL of My Dreams goes to the Veterans Research Corporation, a non-profit fundraiser for veterans’ medical research. So not only are you getting some great stories, you are helping raise money for a good cause.

You can read an excerpt from each of the stories here.

The Anthology includes the following:

A foreword by Robyn Carr

Coming Home by Jami Alden

Baby, I’m Back by Stephanie Bond

SEALed Fates by Kylie Brant

Finding Home by HelenKay Dimon

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
