Mystery

Double Play by Mike Weiss Review

Dan White, a San Francisco Supervisor assassinated Mayor George Moscone and fellow Supervisor Harvey Milk. Double Play by Mike Weiss is a true story. It is from the 70’s and was originally written in the 1980’s. It is an accurate account of the history behind all three men, their lives, and what eventually would lead to all three of their deaths. Dan White confessed to killing Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk, but was only sentenced to 5 years in prison for both murders. White didn’t even serve the full five years of his sentence.

As part of this book, there is a DVD with pictures and the confession of Dan White the day he turned himself in.

Wow, what a book! Amazing writing, detail and information! I have never read a book with so much information. I also have never struggled so much with trying to get through the book. I was amazed at the research the author put into this book. I have yet to finish this book, which is hard for me, because I really try to finish all the books I start. It is an amazing story and well put together, I just struggled with how much information it gives. I am on page 262 and haven’t even reached the part when Dan White kills both men. I feel that All three men’s stories are important and this book gives them the attention they deserved and doesn’t just give you the good things they did.

I would recommend this book to those who like documentaries and have the patience to sit and read such a lengthy book. Harvey Milk is gay, so if that bothers people, this isn’t the book for you. There is violence, since the two men were murdered. There is also mention of sex, but it doesn’t go into great detail about the sex involved.

Thread Reckoning by Amanda Lee Review

Marcy Singer owns the Seven Year Stitch shop in Oregon in Thread Reckoning by Amanda Lee. When Cassandra Wainwright comes into her shop, Marcy has no idea her life is about to change. Cassandra’s soon to be mother-in-law is found murdered in front of Marcy’s shop. Marcy becomes a person of interest and she decides to take matters into her own hands and find out who the killer is, before she’s next. Marcy believes the murderer is after the jewels that she was supposed to be stitching into Cassandra’s wedding dress. Marcy must find the killer before she becomes their next victim. To make matters worse, the man who left Marcy at the alter comes back to try and win her over again. Marcy isn’t sure if she wants him back or if she wants one of the other men that are trying to win her heart.

Thread Reckoning is a fun and easy read. The story moves along at just the right pace. I like Marcy’s character and felt she was a good heroine. There was just enough romance to keep it good, but Amanda Lee did not overdue it. I would recommend this book to everyone! It is clean and cute and I hope you read it to find out who the killer is, and find out who Macy ends up with.

One Drug by Joe Harwell Review

In the middle of the 21st Century, America’s economy has collapsed and life is hard for the American citizens. In One Drug by Joe Harwell, organ donors are on the rise when people decide to become V.T. (Voluntary Termination) and give their organs away. The US Government encourages assisted suicide to relieve stress on the people still healthy.

On April 1, 2052, Craig Jackson is summoned to his work. He is employed by Docking Strategies and is asked to go into one of their regional offices and take over. Craig is excited to return to his home state and catch up with some of his family he hasn’t seen in years.

As Craig works to set things right, he finds that something else is going on within the company and isn’t sure who he can trust. The local mafia is behind the drug smuggling and they aren’t sure what is happening to the people who have signed up for VT, but never showed to their appointments.

One Drug was a very interesting book. Makes you give thought to if this could be true in the future. It was a well written book and I would recommend this to those who like sci-fi type books. I’m not usually a fan of sci-fi, but I enjoyed this book. Joe Harwell did a great job in writing One Drug and I hope you take the time to read it for yourself.

While My Pretty One Knits by Anne Canadeo Review

The Black Sheep Knitters meet once a week without fail to work on their projects and to support each other in While My Pretty One Knits by Anne Canadeo. They are a unique group but care for each other dearly. Their world is thrown out of whack when someone in their town is murdered and one of them becomes the suspect. Amanda Goran’s murder has thrown the whole town into suspicion, especially Maggie Messina’s, her rival, and one of the Black Sheep Knitter’s group.

Maggie Messina has finally opened her dream store, the Black Sheep Knitting Shop, and is living life to its fullest. She is a widow and loves spending time helping people with their projects of knitting. She holds classes for all who want to learn. Maggie finally has one of her first students, Cara Newhouse, coming to host a book signing party.

Cara is getting ready for her own reality show and book tour and has already written numerous books. Unfortunately, her first stop on her tour is in Plum Harbor, a small town she grew up in. She loves this town, but is excited for her book tour and possibly her own show.

Amanda Goran owns the rival store, Knitting Nest. She and her husband are going through a divorce and she has revamped her look. The morning of her rival’s book signing, she is murdered, but no one knows who did it.

Lucy Binger is one of the Black Sheep Knitters group. She is divorced and trying to make it on her own as a graphic designer. Lucy loves her close knit friends and would do anything for anyone of them. Lucy really loves Maggie and is frustrated that Maggie could be considered a suspect in Amanda’s death. So many people didn’t like Amanda, she believes they should be looking into people that are more likely to actually hurt someone.

I thought this book was so cute, I couldn’t put it down! It is a very easy read and pulled me into the story within the first two chapters. It is clean for both language and only one (or two) kisses. I would recommend this book to anyone, because it is so clean and such a fun read. There are even a few knitting tips at the end of the book and some recipes to try. I have never knitted before, but am curious to try after reading this book. Anne Canadeo is an author I would definitely read again and would love to see more just like While My Pretty One Knits. I hope you take the time to read this book, you wont regret it!

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
