Too Scot to Handle by Grace Burrowes Review

Colin Hughes, a Scottish man who served in British Military, finds himself unsure of how to traverse the complicated rules that is the English Victorian society, this is not a feeling Colin is used to. As if the feeling were not enough, Colin has met the interesting Anwen Windham but his mistakes in society may keep him from being able to court her.

Anwen believes that members of the aristocracy have a duty to help those less fortunate than themselves, which is why she is such a staunch supporter of the House of Wayward Urchins, an orphanage. But as the orphanage’s lack of finances are threatening to force the house to close, making the orphans homeless once again, Anwen wonders if she will be able to solve the finance problem and win the heart of the charming Lord Colin. Will the House’s problems cause the couple’s romance to end before it even has a chance to fully begin or will it help Anwen to realize all her dreams?!

Sometimes, a problem is not solved by wisdom of the head, but by wisdom of the heart.

Too Scot to Handle was a fantastic novel of the relationships we form and the damage selfishness can cause. Colin’s predicament was believable where he thought he had found himself some friends and ended up getting taken advantage of. Anwen’s desire to live a full life and help the boys at the orphanage made her really likable. But it is Burrowes’ masterful weaving of the complicated nature of relationships and the motivations of the character’s actions that made Too Scot to Handle such a delight to read.  Too Scot to Handle by Grance Burrowes is the second book in the Windham Brides series and can be read as a stand alone novel. Too Scot to Handle is the first book I have read in this series but I plan on reading both The Trouble with Dukes and No Other Duke Will Do when it is released in Winter 2017.
