Pooka in My Pantry by R.L. Naquin Review

sunset cruiseZoey Donovan has accepted that the world is full of magical creatures and that sometimes those creatures need her help but she is struggling to juggle helping the magical creatures and not appearing crazy at work. In Pooka In My Pantry by R.L. Naquin, when things start to go wrong, they really start to go wrong. The leprechaun mafia has showed up demanding “protection” money, her closet monster has left to try to salvage his marriage and Zoey can’t seem to make it an hour without tripping over something, knocking something over or spilling coffee down her front.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Riley, the super-hot grim reaper hasn’t been returning her text messages or phone calls. When he finally does show up, it is with a whole new set of problems that Zoey is going to have to deal with.

Those of you familiar with Novel Reaction know that I don’t usually review urban fantasy novels, the main reason being I always want my happily-ever-after and you don’t always get those with UFs. That being said, the Monster Haven series by R.L. Naquin has become one of my favorite. while there are some danger and mystery elements to the series, it is the humor that keeps me reading and giggling. Zoey’s character is endearing in her desire to help creatures, her inability to do it without destroying an outfit and her refusal to accept less than she thinks she deserves. I recommend reading the series in order but you can read Pooka in My Pantry by itself. I flew through the book and giggled almost the entire time, I mean really, any novel that starts off with a sea creature giving birth in a swimming pool you know is going to be humorous.
