The Mystery Woman by Amanda Quick Review and Giveaway

garter gunThe Ladies of Lantern Street return in the newest installment The Mystery Woman by Amanda Quick. Beatrice Lockwood is a woman used to using her wits and her paranormal powers to support herself. As a killer tracks Beatrice down, it is going to take all her skills to keep herself alive and as she gets to know the mysterious Joshua Gage it will take all her willpower not to fall in love with the man.

Joshua Gage has spent his adult life living in the shadows, protecting crown and country but after a disastrous mission cost the lives of his partner and his partner’s fiancee, Joshua has retired from the game. But when someone comes blackmailing his sister Joshua is forced out of retirement into doing the one thing he is best at, finding people.

It is no secret that I am a big Jayne Ann Krentz (aka Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle) fan, while the last few series have become a bit formulaic, that doesn’t mean I love them any less. But The Mystery Woman departs from that formula, to begin with Joshua doesn’t believe in the paranormal. He believes in cold hard logic. In Amanda Quick’s previous Arcane novels she talks about individuals who have some paranormal talent but don’t know it, it was fabulous to have one of the main characters be one of those individuals. Joshua’s disbelief added a great layer to an already interesting story. While The Mystery Woman is the second book in The Ladies of Lantern Street you don’t need to read the first one to know what is going on.  Amanda Quick always has the right mix of mystery, danger, paranormal and romance which is why I gave The Mystery Woman five stars and recommend reading soon!
