The Blood Moon ceremonies are approaching and things are getting crazy and scare in the Drake family. Blood Moon by Alyxandra Harvey picks up exactly where Bleeding Hearts leaves off. Solange, newly turned vampire, is struggling to control her urges for fresh blood and is unsure who to believe, her parents who’s only answer is more tests on her blood or Constantine who claims he has the answers. Either way, Solange knows that things are going to get more complex before they get better. Kieran, boyfriend of Solange, doesn’t know what to do to help her with her problems, as if that wasn’t enough, strange vampires are attacking the local village residents and even his mother.
Lucy has left public school to start attending the mysterious Helios-Ra, a vampire hunter training school, as if starting at a new school weren’t bad enough, its hard to fit in with vampire hunters when your boyfriend, Nicholas, is a vampire. Lucy now must balance school work and training with sneaking off to be with Nicholas and figure out what is going on with Solange. Nicholas is trying to balance vampire politics with figuring out what is going on with Solange and helping Lucy not get killed with her usual clumsiness and ability to fall in the middle of fighting vampires.
Blood Moon is a great next installment in the Drake Chronicles but my biggest complaint is it is a build up to Blood Prophecy and totally left us readers with a cliff-hanger. Blood Moon switches from the first-person point of view of Solange, Kieran, Nicholas and Lucy. Like the previous Drake novels, Blood Moon is a quick read with funny moments between the characters although this novel is darker than the previous titles in terms of violence and deaths. I enjoyed Blood Moon but am just when everything was building to a climax it ended so I am left hanging until the next book, which is why I gave it a three instead of a four star rating. Thank goodness Blood Prophecy comes out in January so I don’t have to wait too long to find out what will happen to Solange and how Nicholas was able to escape.
