Because you can't judge a book by its cover

Howard Barr has worked as a bodyguard for Roman Draganesti for a number of years, a bear shapeshifter Howard as watched as one after another of his co-workers has found their mate but Howard remains alone. Wild About You by Kerrlyn Sparks is the latest in The Love at Stake series. Howard barely survived the murder of his girlfriend in high school and has remained focused on one thing, revenge for her death, well….except for his secret fascination with Elsa Bjornberg, a television series home remodeler. When Roman’s wife Shannan decides to meddle and hires Elsa’s show to do a remodel on one of their properties, Howard will find himself tempted like he never has been before.

Elsa Bjornberg has always felt a little out of place until she meets Howard, who makes her feel like a woman. When Elsa starts to fall for Howard, she finds out their love is forbidden by an ancient curse and Elsa has to decide how far she is willing to go for love, even if that means sneaking behind her crazy gun toting aunt’s backs.

I am a huge fan of the Love at Stake series and Wild About You continues the entertaining series. Howard has appeared in several of the other books in the series and I was excited that he finally got his own happily ever after. Sparks’ weaving of an ancient curse into and impacting the current lives of the descendants of the curse was masterfully done. I think my favorite thing about Sparks’ series, and why I keep reviewing the books in the series, is her ability to make me laugh. I know going into a The Love at Stake series that I am going to be humorously entertained when I pick up a novel in the series and Wild About You keeps the humor flowing.

In My Favorite Mistake by Georgina Bloomberg and Catherine Hapka, the story follows Tommi, Zara, and Kate and their adventures at Pelham Lane. Tommi has a new boyfriend that is pretty much perfect in every way until he convinces her to miss a show. She has to try and catch up for missing the one show with the horse her dad is anxious to sell as their joint business endeavor. Zara is trying now to take her riding more seriously until her dad hires a babysitter to watch her while he’s touring Europe. The babysitter parties more than Zara and it starts to frustrate her when her house is a complete dump all of the time. Kate is a working student and doesn’t have money to burn on stupid things like everyone else. Unfortunately, she continues to work herself harder and harder and is keeping things from her hot boyfriend Fitz. Kate starts developing another much more serious problem.

My Favorite Mistake picks up right where The A Circuit left off, which made it a little confusing to me since I haven’t read that one in a little while. It was definitely interesting to see the concerns of each different girl as it follows their part of the story. I liked how quickly the novel progressed and it was easy to follow the story of each girl. It did swear a bit and had underage drinking. It definitely had a cliff hanger ending and I’m excited for Off Course to come out!

Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating it today! Here at Novel Reaction we are grateful to be able to spend the day with family, we are grateful for our readers, but we are especially grateful for the authors and other industry specialists who work so hard to entertain, enlighten and edify us. We love being able to share our love of reading with all of you. May your day be filled with lots of good food, lots of good family, and time spent with a good book. :-)

Erin Simms has spent the last ten years trying to catch the murderer that set her brother up and has resulted in him being on death row. In Where Angels Rest by Kate Brady, Erin has managed to track down a key missing suspect but she only has a week to get new evidence before her brother will be put to death. Rushing to the small town where this suspect is, Erin must convince the small town sheriff to help her but as she is leaving town, she is run down by a car and realizes that getting her brother off might result in her own death.

Sheriff Nick Mann spent years on the LA police department dealing with the worst of the worst before one of the mob members killed his wife and severely injured his daughter. Moving to the small town where he grew up seemed like the right decision, even if on his worst day he has to deal with wildlife. Then Erin comes into his town, upsetting everyone and suddenly the bodies are starting to pile up. Nick must figure out what is really going on and why he is so attracted to the strong-willed Erin.

Okay, it has been awhile since I stayed up late to finish a book but Where Angels Rest kept me glued from the first page until I finished the last page at 2:00 am. Brady’s suspense and mystery were fabulously done but it is her short descriptive paragraphs about minor characters that really blew me away. With a few short sentences she is able to give a fabulously detailed picture of the character without making the reader feel overwhelmed or confused. I loved Erin, who stopped at nothing to protect brother, even when everyone else was against her. I REALLY loved Nick, especially after I read that his motto to get elected sheriff was “Not in Nick’s town”, meaning he doesn’t allow bad stuff to happen to anyone he considers under his protection. This is one of those stories where I started it intending to read a few chapters and didn’t allow anything to interrupt my reading. I will be getting the rest of the series and eagerly look forward to Twice Dead (Nick’s brother Logan’s story).

**Be aware there is a lot of use of the F* word in the novel.

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
