Kacey Simon’s life couldn’t be more perfect in the novel How to Rock Braces and Glasses by Meg Haston. Within the course of a week, however, Kacey’s life plummets. It starts with her contacts acting up and an eye infection that puts her in chunky glasses. Next happens after an accident at the skating rink leaves Kasey in braces and headgear. Not to mention the litthsp… Her life is utterly ruined! She gets kicked off the air for her television announcements and her friends ditch her. Then she loses the lead in the school play and no one will talk to her. As Kacey slowly gains her self-confidence back, she has to learn the hard way who her true friends are and more importantly, how to be a true friend herself.
I really liked this book and watching Kacey grow throughout the novel. There were some moments when I just wanted to scream at her for being stupid, but I must admit that it kept me riveted through the entire novel. She started off at the top of the food-chain in school and it less then a week is rocketed to the very bottom. Kacey has to grow a lot during this time as well as learn a lot of truths about life. I really enjoyed this take on high school and thought Meg Haston did a really great job telling this fun story!
