Lexi Carmichael, reformed hacker, has recovered from the events outlined in No One Lives Twice and has started her new job but their first client isn’t exactly what they expected. No One to Trust by Julie Moffett begins with a brilliant scientist, Darren Greening, gone missing and the only message he left was for Lexi, too bad Lexi has no idea who he is or why he is trying to contact her. Darren’s employers have hired the company Lexi works for to track down Darren but the deeper Leix digs into the mystery the more concerned she gets for Darren.
As if cryptic messages from an unknown missing man weren’t enough, Lexi has to deal with the stress of working with the sexy Finn, the mysterious Slash popping in and out of her life, and Basia’s misguided attempts to help Lexi with her man problem by hiring a stripper to teach Lexi how to let the sexy out.
No One to Trust was an entertaining, fast paced mystery novel. I haven’t read No One Lives Twice but didn’t need to in order to understand where the characters have come from and how Lexi has ended up in her current position. Lexi is a geeky woman who seems to lack the brain-to-mouth filter needed and this gets her into trouble. The positions that Lexi lands are in laugh out loud hilarious and I have the novel a content rating of 2 not because of sex but because Lexi finds herself dancing at a strip-club, channeling Pussy Galore out of James Bond (with hilarious results). The romantic elements in the novel were minor compared to the mystery Lexi is trying to solve and I look forward to the further antics of Lexi Carmichael.
