Because you can't judge a book by its cover

Daphne Martin is delivering one of the first cakes she has made since opening her own business, Daphne’s Delectable Cakes. She knocks on the door to find someone telling her to “come in”. Unfortunately, she finds her first client, dead. Small towns have a knack for gossip, the problem is that it’s going around that Yodel Watson was poisoned by Daphne’s cake. Who is Daphne going to deal with that gossip, especially when it’s coming from the Police Detective’s wife?! As Daphne uncovers a family secret in Yodel’s journal, she’s torn as to confronting her mother, or just letting things be, and as she struggles with that, the person who murdered Yodel is coming after her!

Gayle Trent does such a great job of writing this mystery! I enjoyed this book so much, I read it in one day and just couldn’t seem to put it down. It was so clean and so much fun to read. I thought the character’s sense of humor was a lot like mine, I even found myself laughing out loud in some parts. I was really surprised by the ending, I always like to try and guess who the killer is, and I was dead wrong (no pun intended!)!

I really like the recipes at the end of the book (which I plan on trying)! The one recipe that I really want to try is her Cinnamon Rolls recipe. It looks so yummy! Gayle Trent also put in some tips for decorating cakes and I thought they were great tips. I like to try and make my kids’ birthday cakes all the time, so I will be using some of her tips.

Murder Takes the Cake, is a fun story and I will definitely be recommending it to anyone! I can’t wait to read more of Trent’s books!

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
