The Duke’s Downfall by Lynn Michaels Review
Lady Elizabeth Keaton has the left the country to escape an unwanted marriage to her slimy cousin for the perilous London Society. In The Duke’s Downfall by Lynn Michaels Lizzie has a plan to make herself undesirable to unwanted suitors by appearing as an eccentric and with the help of her Irish Wolfhound Boru.
Charles Earnshaw, Duke of Braxton, has worked hard his entire life to overcome the excesses that most of his family have indulged in. When his younger brother Teddy falls for Lizzie, Charles feels like he must step in to keep him from getting married at too young an age. Charles is hesitant to get too involved because every encounter with Lizzie leaves him with torn clothing or injured in some way.
The Duke’s Downfall is a funny lighthearted romantic read. One of my favorite scenes of the novel is where the servants are informed that Boru is coming to stay so they remove anything breakable from the house and hire two large footman to keep him under control. Boru’s antics are a little far fetched at times but entertaining nonetheless. Some of the antics are very reminisant of “slapstick” comedy, which is easy to achieve in a film but much harder to achieve in the written word, Michaels does an incredible job of bringing the antics to life. The Duke’s Downfall reminded me of the Zebra Regency Romance novels that I have enjoyed reading so much.
