Out for Blood

Bleeding Hearts (November 2011)

I am very excited to post that Bloomsbury has given us a sneak peek at the fourth book, Bleeding Heart:

POVs: Lucy, Christabel, Connor

Description from Bloomsbury website

The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill. Lucy’s cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy’s parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn’t possibly happen in this tiny town. But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn’t understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won’t admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

In addition to her great Drake Chronicles series, Alyxandra Harvey is releasing a new series in June 2011. Haunting Violet is a Victorian ghost story and you can read an excerpt here.

Hunter Wild is the last in a long line of vampire hunters, with the new alliance formed between the vampires and the Helios-Ra (the elite vampire hunter organization) Hunter finds herself having to change her ideas about vampires especially after she meets sexy vampire Quinn Drake. Out for Blood by Alyxandra Harvey continues the Drake siblings stories with Quinn, one of the twins. The first time Hunter met Quinn he called her “Buffy” and then flirted with every young female vampire at the coronation, but as things start to get weird at the school for vampire hunters, Hunter finds herself relying on Quinn for his help in unraveling exactly what is going on.

Quinn has always been a bit of a flirt but there is something about Hunter that draws him like no other female ever has.  When Hunter’s school is attacked by the feral Hel-Blar and then students start getting mysteriously ill, Quinn starts to fear that Hunter’s life may be in danger and he starts to realize how much he cares for the independent sexy Hunter.  But as things heat up and tensions rise Quinn starts to fear he may not be able to protect Hunter from the one thing he should, himself.

Out for Blood by Alxyandra Harvey is a great read! I fell in love with the Drake Chronicles because of the witty and sparkling dialogue between the main characters and Out for Blood continues  with  witty wordplay between Hunter and Quinn.  The tension and mystery add to the story and Hunter’s vulnerability after she does what she needs to make her a fabulous heroine. I personally get tired of stupid whinny women who wait  around for the vampire to save them, Hunter is definitely not that as she works hard to continue her vampire hunting family tradition.  A fourth book is scheduled to be released in November 2011 and Harvey left us hanging, I eagerly await the fourth book to find out more regarding what is happening to Solange. It was wonderful to see more of the characters from Hearts at Stake as Lucy and Nicholas are two of my favorite characters from the series, but I have to admit that Hunter and Quinn are a close second.  I read the book in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. If you enjoyed Hearts at Stake you will love Out for Blood!

When Pamela Lawson decides to have breast augmentation to feel better about herself, she has no idea she’s about to put her life on the line. The implants that Dr. MacNamara recommends to her is supposed to keep her from getting uncomfortable ends up causing cancer. What Pamela doesn’t know, is that filing suit against P.S.S. sets off a series of deadly explosions and death threats.

In Murder by Another Name by Jo Stone, attorney Janet Stephenson sets off to get justice for Pamela Lawson’s sickness, and ends up finding evil lurking in the P.S.S. company. Janet is worried about Pam’s health and is trying to get her some money to help pay for her chemo and other expenses that are involved with her liver cancer. She hopes that she can get her the help she needs before it’s too late to save her.

I thought this book was really interesting. I struggled reading about a mother who gets sick. After having my own mom pass away from breast cancer, I hesitated to read this book. I enjoy mystery and law cases, so I started reading this book. I had a hard time putting it down! The explosion at the beginning of the book was a perfect way to catch my attention! I struggled a little with some of the long legal process that Jo goes into. I felt it wasn’t necessary to give us all of the legal stuff. I enjoyed the characters in the book. I felt like I could really relate to Pam Lawson, after having three kids of my own, I would like to feel better about myself. However, after reading this book, I no longer want breast implants. I would suggest Murder by Another Name by Joe Stone to people interested in law stories.

Why Ratings?
It is true you can't judge a book by its cover, you also can't judge a book's graphic content by its cover. NovelReaction's goal is to provide readers with a graphic content so they can make an informed decision regarding the books they want to read. (Also, to have a great place for people to discuss books.) So sit back, pull up a beverage, and read on!
Graphic Ratings*

1 = kissing
2 = kissing, some fondling
3 = descriptive stripping but no sex
4 = sex scene but not descriptive in details
5 = full descriptive sex scene

*I am rating a specific book by an author, not the author's style. If I am aware an author writes a specific way, I will let you know.
